What a wonderful day! We got up and I had the most beautiful breakfast! (In case you missed it.... rambutan, blue sticky rice with coconut pudding on top cooked in banana leaves, and a fruit called rose apples)
From breakfast we headed to the Kok river for a 3 hour boat ride! I get a little hit nervous on smaller boats, but after we started that all went away! The scenery was so gorgeous all I could do was think to myself how lucky I am to be here and how grateful I am to have this incredible opportunity! It may sound cheesy but I was really just whispering "thank you thank you thank you" under my breath the whole time!
Oh and there were elephants!
Half way through our boat journey we stopped to see the Lahu Hilltribe. We were just going to walk through and listen to Pok tell us some history, but a young boy and girl spotted us and thought they'd make better guides! So we held their hands while they showed us around, did some stomping games, high fived and shook hands goodbye!
After we left the village we took off in our boats again! We had to walk part of the way because the river is so low the bottom of the boat was hitting the riverbed under us! Once we finished the boat ride we stopped in town to get a quick lunch where Pok presented me with the perfect banana! For those of you that don't know this about me....I'm constantly on the hunt for the perfect banana! These were shorter and much fatter than ours back home...but the flavor! Oh my goodness! You had to bite a hunk out of it and it was so sweet and so creamy! I'm going to miss them!
After lunch we took a three hour bus ride to our next destination (lots of travel today). We stopped about half way at a small market where I had the best iced coffee I've ever tasted! I also bought a few of the rose apples and wish so badly I could bring them home...oh well....guess I'll have to eat them all....oh, and another fat banana. Darn.
rose apple
Oh yeah....dried bananas that look like bacon! Waaay better than American dried bananas!
We checked into the Hmong Hilltribe Lodge this evening and I immediately went for a quick dip in the GORGEOUS pool! Now for those of you that don't know me...I'm not that much of a swimmer. It just never did anything for me. So saying that I had to go swimming...you have to know there is something special about this pool. There was. It's called a view. In Thailand. I was in an amazing pool with an amazing view, in an amazing country. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Yeah....that's the view!
This little guy gets it!
After our swim we had a HUGE meal prepared for us that was out of this world! Followed by a traditional Hilltribe show that I don't have pics of because I recorded the whole thing! So let's get together and I'll play it for you!
Our little rooms themselves are in small bungalow type things again, but in the jungle! The sounds are incredible! When we got here I though there was a machine running, but it was actually the cecadas (sekadas? Cecedas? I don't know!) Should be nice to sleep too tonight!
